The PowerEdge TM1655MC is the new ultra rack-dense general-purpose server that has been designed to deliver new levels of performance, availability, and scalability in a space-saving 3U form factor supporting up to 6 blades.

A very elegant solution to rack space and multiple server management issues. The PowerEdge 1655MC architecture is new, yet simple. The 3U enclosure, offering 2x the density of today's 1U servers, contains the redundant power supplies and cooling fans and KVM and Ethernet Switches which are shared across as many as six dual processor server blades.

DELL® PowerEdgeTM 1655MC Chassis Info
Enclosure Chassis
The 3U enclosure holds up to 6 server blades (5.25" (13.33cm) H x 19" (48.26cm) W x 28.9" (73.41cm) D)
Enclosure Power & Cooling
Standard hot plug, redundant (1 + 1) 1048 watt power supplies
Maximum tested power draw of 850W (for a fully configured, fully loaded enclosure with each server blade operating at 100% processor utilization)
100-240 volt AC support
Standard hot-plug redundant cooling
Enclosure Input Devices
Remote management card with integrated keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch. Switch uses the same, intuitive On-Screen menu found on current Dell rackmounted KVM switches. Supports local KVM connection or can be "tiered" into existing rack-mounted analog or KVM over IPTM infrastructures.
Windows SpaceSaver 101-key keyboard
Windows Performance 101-key keyboard
Dell PS/2-style mouse
Integrated Ethernet Switches
1 (standard) or 2 (optional) Managed Layer 2 Ethernet switches
Each switch has 6 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) inputs with 4 copper GbE uplinks (uplink ports support trunking/port aggregation). NICs on blades are routed to the switches internally through the midplane without cables.
Each blade has independent Ethernet connections to each switch, so there are redundant Ethernet paths into and out of the enclosure.
Switches support the following protocols and features - 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3z, 802.3ab (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gb Ethernet standards), 802.1Q and 802.3ac (VLAN tagging and VLAN extensions, up to 32 per switch), Link aggregation or port trunking (supports static or dynamic link aggregation- 2-4 ports per trunk), 802.3ad (dynamic link aggregation, also known as Link Aggregation Control Protocol), 802.3x (flow control), 802.1d (spanning tree), 802.1p (packet prioritization for Quality of Service (QoS)), RADIUS authentication support, IGMPv1/v2 - RFC1112/RFC2236 (restricts forwarding of multicast traffic), port mirroring/port monitoring (for performance monitoring), RFC1157 -SNMPv1 (management), Jumbo frames (to 9KB), RMON or RFC1757 (groups 1,2,3, and 9), MIBs (MIB II (RFC1213), Ethernet MIB (RFC1643), bridge MIB (RFC1493), and private MIB), management (via telnet, serial (RS-232), and web interfaces), BOOTP (for IP addressing), and TFTP (for firmware update/config replication)
Manageable via Web (GUI), Telnet (CLI), serial port (CLI), and SNMP. Ethernet switch management utilities are launchable independently or via OpenManage IT Assistant
Ports
Management card - 9-pin serial, video, PS/2 mouse, PS/2 keyboard, 1 RJ-45 Analog Rack Interface (ARI) port for direct connection to Dell 2161DS KVM over IP switch, and 1 RJ-45 (server management NIC port).
Ethernet Switches (up to 2 per chassis) - each has 4 10/100/1000 baseT uplinks (copper).
